[SOLVED] Problem with Upgrade to 10.04 and Graphics
I have an Acer Aspire 5516 and have been running ubuntu for a while. I couldn't resist the upgrade notice to 10.04 so I did it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to recognize my video card ATI Radeon X1200 and I have to boot in safe graphics mode. I can use my computer but the display is a bit off. I have tried to install the ATI driver but get the following:
ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager
==================================================
Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version
default:v2: x86_64:lib32::none:2.6.31-14-generic; make sure that the version is being
correctly set by --iscurrentdistro
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.eqUOxU
Any suggestions?

are you using 64 bit or 32 bit? you need to make sure your driver matches your os.

Thanks for the reply. I just double checked the driver I downloaded and it is the correct one, it lists my x1200 device as supported and it is the 64 bit version. I think that I did not get a clean upgrade. Is there a way to re-run the upgrade? Some searching that I did resulted in comments about going into the conf file and making entries or taking entries from the saved conf file. Any thoughts on that?

Got this straightened out. Apparently the upgrade was not a good one. I backed up my home directories and then burned a new iso cd. I did a complete install. The install recognized my previous partitions and left them there, creating new ones for the new install. My only issue after that was with my wireless Broadcom. I went to the Ubuntu software download and found the appropriate driver and installed it. After that, all is good. My old files are still on the old partitions. I move them over as needed and eventually will clean up the partitions.
Very Impressed with this release.
