I'm new to Linux and so far I love Ubuntu. Being a Windoz user the GUI is welcomed.

I have a 250GB SATA and only one IDE socket, so that's used by my CD/DVD burner and an IDE drive tray with a 40GB Ubuntu.

I have a problem. My DVD burner and IDE Ubuntu (EXT4) are on the same ribbon cable. Burned with WinXP, the burned CDs seem OK but DVDs either give errors or are not recognized on my other computer's DVD.

Removing the Ubuntu (EXT4) drive and replacing it with another drive (FAT16) yields recognizable DVDs with no errors.

I know in the old days it wasn't advisable to mix a fast drive and a slow CD player on the came cable. Is this true with EXT3/4 drives and burners?
