    Post the contents of /etc/apt/sources.list file here.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Sources.list is correct. Open Terminal and execute this
    Code:
    sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
    sudo apt-get clean all
    sudo apt-get update

    Problems with Synaptic package Manager

    I am an enthusiastic new user of Linux (Ubuntu Feisty) and I started just one week ago.
    I downloaded with success several graphic programs via the package manager Synaptic.
    I don't know what was going wrong but presently I cannot use Synaptic anymore.
    When I run it I get following message :

    E: line 46 bad formed in the sources list /etc/apt/sources.list (analysis of distributions)
    E: the sources list cannot be read
    You can try to fix the problem by opening the deposits window.
    E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

    Can someone help me ?
    Please give me full explanations because I am not yet familiar with the Linux jargon.

    Thank you very much.
