no sound in ubuntu 7.10
There is no sound when booted into live 7.10 cd; motherboard is Asus M2N-E, AMD dual 5200 cpu and an Audigy2 sound card. This machine has sound in Win XP and OpenSuse 10.3. This machine also had no sound from the previous version of Ubuntu; never could figure out why.

Digital Sound
If you're using digital sound or a special card, double click on the speaker up in the corner of the screen. Go to 'edit' then 'preferences', check everything, unmute them and turn them up. It it's digital sound reset your surround sound afterwards, and maybe even your computer if you install ubuntu. If this doesn't work, install ubuntu and download the proprietary drivers for it and use ndiswrapper, which can be installed using apt package manager.
Just remember, google is your friend and so are wikis, if it comes down to ndiswrapper.

32 bit or 64?
I haven't verified this but I have been told that the 64 bit feisty fawn had some issues with sound...not sure if those issues were resolved in the Gutsy version....if you are running 32 then ignore this and good luck

no sound in 7.10
Thanks a lot for the help, guys. The trouble was traced to the digital output box under switches that needed to be unchecked. With the additional download of other restricted drivers, the system now works the way I want it to. Thanks again.
