    basic question about moving directory

ok, i'm retarded. now that's outoftheway. my question: i want to move a directory from one location to another. the directory i wish to move is located(from the root) at the end of the path: mnt/myusb/fabrics. i want to move the directory to the location at the end of this path: home/websites/fabrics. i attempted to accomplish this by typing, in the command prompt, the following: cp -R mnt/myusb/fabrics home/websites/fabrics. the result of this was the following: cp: cannot stat yadda yadda no such file or directory. there is a simple solution, i know, but i'm retarded

You're missing a / at the beggining of you paths:

    Code:
    cp -R /mnt/myusb/fabrics /home/websites/fabrics
Without them the command was working relitive to the directory you're currently in. Starting a path with a / means start from the root directory

    Hi and Welcome !

Are you typing correct path? I think there should be / before mnt.
    Execute this
    Code:
    cd /mnt/myusb
    cp -R fabrics /home/websites/fabrics

EDIT: Kieren is fast and my internet connection is slow today.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
