    Thumbs up ubuntu 8.04 - sony laptop sound card problem

    i have install ubuntu 8.04 in a sony laptop vgn - T170P , everything is working fine except the sound card ,
    in the support page of sony i found that it uses ADI sound MAX ,

    Anybody can help me on that please ?

    You need to find out which chipset the sound card uses. Go to Menu -> Accessories -> Terminal. When the terminal runs, enter
    Code:
    sudo lspci | egrep -i "audio | multimedia"
    Post back the output.

    Hi. Some people in the Ubuntu Forums resolved the problem by running alsamixer (menu -> accessories -> terminal -> sudo alsamixer) and enabling the external amplifier.
