Set execution bit of downloaded Driver and execute it.
Or Install driver through Hardware Manager. Its in Menu.Code:chmod +x nvidia_driver ./nvidia_driver
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Or even use EnvyNG, a little GUI/CLI tool to install nvidia/ati proprietary drivers without much hassle. Last time I check, it was on Universe.
Another way to install the downloaded .run from nvidia's site is to simples doYou can't have X running when you're doing this, and you must be superuser ou using sudo, yada yada yadaCode:sh NVIDIA-whatever.run

I tried installing the Nvidia 3D driver on my Kubuntu 8.04 machine because I'm used to installing the one from Nvidia, and it caused me problems. As esquiso recommends, I also used EnvyNG and it did a great job getting my Nvidia drivers installed properly on that machine. See this thread for more in depth info on running envy.
