    Problems with Ubuntu 8.04


    hi,;;;

    i am linux newbie i am facing a strange prob with this version of ubuntu 8.04 it is bit slower than ubuntu 7.04

    and one more thing suddenly my windows turn dull in color and struck for a while and back in action after few seconds till then i have no control they will not respond especially with firefox it got strucks now and then and when i try to open another url it says u r already running firefos u have to close it or restart it first
    i have to open system monitor and have to terminate firefox process

    can any body get rid of this for me ?

    You can use your 7.04 installation CDs to install right over the newer 8.04 partitions and that should put you back to where you were.

    the dull in color is the same as windows hour glass thing. Just means that it's thinking. As for it being slower.....did you install it from scratch or did you do an upgrade from 7.04? If you didn't do it from scratch I would suggest reinstalling Hardy from scratch (and while you're at it separate the /home from / using manual partitions). This way reinstalling Linux OS is a matter of 10 minutes, I can actually have the OS completely reinstalled from scratch and have all programs up and running (fully configured) in about 12 minutes -- installing Ubuntu on a thumb drive makes it much much faster.

    i have installed a new copy of the ubuntu 8.04 i havent upgraded it
    its a fresh installation
