    fixed resolution problem

i cant seem to make the resolution higher in ubuntu 8.04 32-bit. currently, the only two resolution options are 640x400 or 640x350.

this is on a desktop: emachines t2825
    CPU: AMD Athlon™ XP 2800+ Processor (2.083GHz)
    Chipset: NVIDIA® nForce™2
    Memory: 512MB DDR (PC 2700)
    Hard Drive: 120GB HDD
Video: NVIDIA® GeForce®4™ MX graphics (1 AGP 8x slot available)
    Sound: nForce™ 6-channel Audio

when i try to install the geforce4 mx display drivers from nvidia, after stopping X of course, it keeps giving me this:
    Code:
WARNING: You do not appear to have an NVIDIA GPU supported by the 177.13
NVIDIA Linux graphics driver installed in this system.
system>administration>hardware drivers says "No proprietary hardware drivers are in use on this system" and the list of components is completely empty.

    here's the xorg.conf file:
    Code:
    # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)

    # values from the debconf database.

    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*

lspci is not listing any VGA device. Execute this
    Code:
sudo lspci | grep -i vga
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
