    [SOLVED] Ubuntu updates source

    Hi,

Newbie here. Have installed Ubuntu 8.04 and have discovered that my ISP provides free Ubuntu downloads (ie doesn't get included in my download limit). The address I need to point to is:

deb Index of /ubuntu hardy main universe multiverse

but how do I get the updates to point to this server. Currently I can only see the pre-determined servers (ie by country etc), with no option to add servers. I can add new servers to the 3rd party section, but this doesn't seem to affect the updates

    Hi and Welcome !

Press Alt+F2 and type this :
    Code:
    gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
It will open sources.list file in Gedit.

Add new source in file and put # sign before other lines having multiverse, universe and main words.
    Save file and execute this
    Code:
    sudo apt-get clean all
    sudo apt-get update
Check if it fetches updates from new source.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
