    [SOLVED] Ubuntu boot problem (images attached)

    Yeah I just installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 and this the terminal comes up and then it does nothing. What can I do from the terminal to first load the kernel and then boot it to get to my desktop?

    Try this in the grub editor you see
    find /boot/grub/stage1
    You will get output like (hdX,Y)

    Now write

    root (hdX,Y)
    setup (hdX,Y)

    Type quit
    and reboot

    Or visit HOWTO Restore GRUB

    Execute this
    root (hd0,0)
    setup (hd0)
    Reboot machine.
    In case it doesn't work, boot up from Ubuntu CD, open Terminal and execute this
    sudo fdisk -l
    Post output here.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    It works now, I decided to not be lazy by using wubi and made a partition to do a full install
