    Execute this
    Code:
    sudo hdparm /dev/sda
    In case, hdparm is not installed, install it using apt-get.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install hdparm
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply. I executed the hdparm command and got the following response:

    /dev/sda:
    IO_support = 0 (default)
    16-bit)
    HDIO_GET_UNMASKINTR failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    HDIO_GET_KEEPSETTINGS failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    readonly = 0 (off)
    readahead = 256 (on)
    geometry = 9729/255/63, sectors = 156301488, start = 0

    Any idea what all this means?
    Glen
