i have now got everything working except compiz fusion....

know matter how many times i read that install procedure i just can't understand it, it may as well be written in french for me, it's proberbly just me but can anyone help me.

i can bring up the advanced desktop effects settings which brings up my compizconfig settings manager but no matter what i select nothing happens? is there a problem with it or is it just me... apart from that i'm having a blast on ubuntu heron!

I can't help you with this because I never use Compiz-fusion. Why? Because it sucks too much power out of your CPU and some apps that otherwise work fine can crash. I have set it up before, but I was very disappointed and now I'm happy with my 2D desktop. Perhaps Geeth knows?

In order to turn on compiz fusion, you need a suitable graphics card and the drivers installed. Then you need to activate them from the appearance dialog and then you can use the settings manager to set it up.

Which Graphics Card do you have?
    Execute this
    Code:
sudo lspci | grep -i vga
    grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Post output here.

    OK, Now I'm back home...

Make sure your drivers are enabled
System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers

Enable the effects from the appearance panel
System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects
