    Some Winmodems have drivers for Linux but most do not and will not work with Linux. See Linmodems.org for more on how to identify your modem. If it won't work and there are no drivers, consider getting an external modem. Most are reasonably priced, work out of the box with Linux and will give better connectivity and performance. The Actiontec V92 External is my choice for ease of use with Linux and affordability.
