Testing Virtual Host without DNS Update

    Hi,
I have created a virtual host (say example.com) and enabled it. I can see a new symbol for example.com in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled alongwith 000-default.
I want to test if example.com domain is running properly before I actually update DNS record to make it available for the whole world.
Looking for all kind of suggestions !
    /Atiq

Well if its IP based Virtual host you simply can test with IP in browser,

if it is Name based then you need to have multiple 'Fully qualified domain name' DNS entries for 1 IP, if you havn't upgraded DNS
then Just add entry to your '/etc/hosts' file

    eg

    172.16.10.1 server.example.com server
    172.16.10.1 virtual.example.com virtual
    Never make any misteaks.

Thanks for reply. I have created Name Based Virtual Host. You have told the way to update DNS. But I want to test the virtual host before I update DNS.

    /etc/hosts, its your local file,
    It wont update DNS.
    use this command instead..
    echo <ip> <fqdn1> <alias> >> /etc/hosts
    echo <ip> <fqdn2> <alias> >> /etc/hosts
    add your entries for <ip> <fqdn> <alias>
    eg.
    172.16.10.1 server.example.com server
    172.16.10.1 virtual.example.com virtual
    Never make any misteaks.
