Trouble getting VirtualBox OSE to work
hello,
I have installed VirtualBox OSE. When I tried to get it started here is the message I get:
********
VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Please install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel, e.g. virtualbox-ose-modules-generic..
VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).
Result Code:
0x80004005
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}
********
So I found something on the net regarding this and ran the command "uname -a" then the command and got the following results
********
manu@manu:~$ sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.24-22-generic
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.24-22-generic
**********************
I also got the following ran into the terminal sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-modules-generic
I got a bunch of stuff ran and installed. But not the above version "....-22-generic". It asked me to restart the system which I did. Then no change and still the same message like the one at the beginning of this thread.
So if anyone know what I should do, I would appreciate. Thank you.

Hmm... I know scaringly little about deb installers, but: I'd get into a front-end to apt-get (such a Synaptic) and try to search for your package there. Guessing at package names from the command line can be tedious, lengthy, and frustrating.

Thanks for your advices. I checked it out. This is installed by default but still getting the same message as mentioned in the first thread.. Yes as you said, a bit frustrating. But still looking. Otherwise if virtualbox is not working, do you know another software working for Ubuntu. I will check otherwise on the net as well. I tried VMWare but not working without an activation key for 30 days but the one I am getting is for Windows lol.
thanks again.

Well, I personally use qemu and am quite satisfied. It depends on what you're trying to achieve. Qemu is free, GPLed software, available in most distros. I use it from the command line which is a bit tedious, but there also exist some front-ends (mainly for Gnome, if I remember correctly). It has a good home page with exhaustive documentation, and an accelerator kernel module to help it run faster.
