    Exclamation dpkg --configure -a

    Ubuntu 8-10 installed recently and worked brilliantly. I am new to Linux but sold on ease and spead. Since following instructions to correct no sound it the above entry in a Terminal. Now it appears every where,so cannot download updates, or additional software. Update Manager says "Must run dpfk manually" How ? Please reply in simple English . Thanks brianmell.

    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    sudo apt-get clean all
    sudo apt-get update
    Post exact error message here, if any.

    Many thanks Jasper. That was a bit terrifying for the uninitiated especially when I tested it out on new downloads which went on for 3/4 hr. I am left with a message " One brokenpackage "Use thebroken fiter to....." any ideas how? Many thanks brianmell

    Execute sudo dpkg --configure -a command 4-5 times. In case it doesn't sort out problem, execute this

    sudo apt-get install htop
    Post exact error message here, if any.

    Thankyou Devils Casper I think all is ok as downloads completed and I have also been able to install Wine and configure it to XP hoping to be able to run PhotoplusX". Must now set about installing old Lexmark X75 printer. Brianmell

    Hi all, I have the same problem, it happened when updating ubuntu tweak in Ultimate gamers edition 8.10 intrepid ibex release, all the methods that have been described have been tried by me and have failed, as sudo doesn work for me and i do no tknow how to be root in ubuntu, I have pasted the error code i get, it is as follows:
    E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
    E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
    Please let me know off the soloution if any.

    Could you post the exact output of this
    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    Above command will ask for a password. Type your own password. Nothing will appear on screen while typing. Just type correct password and hit Enter key. Post error message here, if any.
