"kinit: no resume image" problem without internet access
This is almost my 6th time reinstalling Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit because every time I install the latest Nvidia drivers for my video cards, 2 9800 GTX+'s in SLI, I get that "kinit: no resume image" problem.
This is the normal installation process for me:
1.) Install Ubuntu on a partition with the Live CD.
2.) Boot into Ubuntu, and since I have a weird wireless card, it asks me to install the proprietary driver for it.
3.) I reboot into Ubuntu and now I have Internet. There are two proprietary drivers left: "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version173)" and "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version177) [recommended]." I have come to learn that I am only able to install the recommended one, the first one doesn't even download.
4.) So I install the recommended one and reboot. I get the "kinit: no resume image" thing.
I have tried all of the online things that I've seen but the problem is that since I'm using a weird wireless card instead of ethernet, I can't connect to the Internet when I'm at TTY1-6. I have also tried installing it with the *.sh file that you download off of their website, still the same problem.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Suvrat.

Is it me or is getting the message:
just normal. I get it as well, and I don't get any errors. Or is your problem that you have no splash screen on boot? If that's the case, that's just a little inconvenience. If I'd get it I wouldn't be bothered.Code:kinit: no resume image found, resuming on normal boot

After it says normal boot, it takes me to TTY1 and stays there. There is no GUI at all.

I've tried startx, /etc/init.d/gdm start, etc.
