Thumbs down [SOLVED] Konsole won't allow password entry

I am trying to reset the root password.
I type $ sudo passwd yet when the password input line comes up it will not allow me to enter any text. I am having the same problem with the su - blinkin command. I have had kubuntu for a couple of days and have yet to really figure things out, if I'm missing something simple please let me know.

    Welcome to the forums!

Password characters are not echoed to the screen in Linux, so just type in your password as if it were showing, then press ENTER.

When resetting the root password the keystrokes don't appear and it acts like it isn't taking the key entries, but it is.

Just type in the password you want then test it out.
