Question Xbuntu Panel and Menus Suddenly Gone

Wow! Everything was OK until Firefox 3.05 froze up. After re-booting to clear that problem I noticed that I no longer had menus or panel. I suppose I was lucky because I had placed many application icons on the desktop and designated that the main menu appear when I "right click" so I'm still "alive". The paging still works by moving windows right or left so apparently it's just display functions that are invisible but not gone.

The "XFCE Settings Manager" box for "panel" is active but unresponsive (you can click it but nothing appears).

I reinstalled everything to do with XFCE or the Desktop to no avail. Synaptic package manager reports "no broken packages". I am now installing Gnome hoping that the new manager will bring a new panel with it. I much prefer XFCE though.

Be nice if Ubuntu had "repair existing OS" on installation DVD.

    Anyone have any ideas???

    Execute this
    Code:
    mv ~/.config/xfce4 ~/.config/xfce4.old
    Reboot machine.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
