    amarok ipod 4th gener config

I've been trying for quite some time to get my ipod to sync with intrepid. I have amarok installed and my ipod 4th generation with color and photo isn't recognized when I look under devices in amarok. I try the connect button that is listed on devices but it asks for a pre-connect command and a post-disconnect command. I don't know what to do from here, any help would be appreciated. thanks.

There's a bit of a trick to this, that really isn't explained well enough...so don't feel bad for missing it

Go into Settings > Configure Amarok > Media Devices
If you're running a Gnome desktop (I'm guessing you are) the autodetect won't work. Click on Add Device and select Apple iPod Device from the dropdown menu. Give it any name you wish (My iPod or something) and then add the mount point. If you're not sure, check the /media/ directory for something like /media/IPOD or /media/MIKE'SIPOD or similar. Add that full path as the mount point.

After that click okay, then apply. Your device should automatically appear in the device menu and you should be able to connect/disconnect as you need to.

Thank you, I got both my ipods (ipod color and shuffle) to be recognized by amarok. I still have one more question. How do you sync ipod so I can add music, files, etc?

Well I got my ipod working on my ipod shuffle. But on my ipod 4th generation photo, I get an error saying that it's failed to create lockfile on ipod, read only. How do I "unlock" my ipod to get it to add music for all users?

Solution...sell the Mac products and go for something more friendly to the rest of us such as the Creative Zen but, if that's not an options I found this in a blog:

Note: If your iPod is formatted for Mac — that is, it’s HFS+, and you receive an error message about a failure to create a lockfile and read-only permissions, you’ll probably need to boot into a Mac and turn off journalling on your iPod via the disk utility in order to use your iPod with Amarok (thanks, James!).

I don't use a mac. Should I restore my ipod and see if it works?

I guess that would be one thing to try. You can also try just plugging it into a Windows PC with Itunes and seeing if you can do anything from that (I'd probably suggest formatting it and starting from scratch). I think the main issue is the way a mac sets up the Ipod. Did you use a mac to originally configure it? If not, I'm out of ideas but will look into it more.
