    Video & Audio Playback Problems

    Hello,
I recently have installed kubuntu on my HP dv6000 laptop. It runs pretty smoothly with linux on it. 3 problems I've found is...

    1) Playing audio files will not be as loud as playing the same files in windows.
    - Yes, I raised all of the volumes in different areas up, which helped some.

    2) Playing videos seems to only show a portion of the video. What I mean is it seems like it's too zoomed in so I'm only seeing the top left or so. I've tried changing the zoom, trying to make it smaller, but it basically doesn't change much.

    3) I've also noticed that when I put in a regular audio CD, that it will not playback, nor will it even recognize the disk. The is there. In windows, media player will recognize it right away.
    - Note: It does recognize data CDs & DVDs just fine!
    - It will see mp3 files & play them and pull any other data right off of the discs...So I'm not sure what the problem is?

My main concern is the video playback problem

    Thanks,

1)Open a terminal (Konsole) and type:
    Code:
    alsamixer
Raise the 2 left channels all the way up and press ctrl+c to exit alsamixer.

2)Does the video problem happen with all media players? Which one do you use?
You could try using vlc, to see if it happens with it as well.

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install vlc

Sorry about the late response...It seems to happen with all video players. I will also note that sometimes when I open little windows or click on something like a drop down down menu, for a split second the menu shows a "static" type of view. Like static you seen on a TV set. I didn't know if that was connected to the video issue.

I use amarok - I'm not sure if I'm spelling that right or not, but that's the default player I use. Like I said though, it happens on all video players.

    sudo apt-get install alsamixergui

    terminal:

    alsamixergui

make sure all of the speakers are turned on and up. I had a similar problem until I found this gui. Also you might have to run alsamixer with these options:

    alsamixergui -C0
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

Thank you very much for your help. It worked L4Linux. I haven't tried the method you oferred jmadero, but I'm betting that one works too! I appreciate your quick responses.
