    Online streaming radio

I enjoy listening to the radio online whilst I'm working on the computer.

I have just installed Ubuntu and am trying to get things running as they were in WinXP.

I've tried listening to the radio stationYou are listening to FIVEaa but get no sound, just the logo for the media player.

Does anybody have a very simple basic, (like double click), solution for this problem?

I clicked on your link. I got no video but I received the sound from the station. I also have medibuntu restricted extras installed on my ubuntu. Try it again after installing restricted extras on your install. Also I was using my Firefox 3.0.5 Browser.

Thanks for that prompt reply "rokytnji".
I've looked through the web page you suggested and to a complete newbie to Linux that lot looks scary - I guess a bit like dropping an Eskimo into Time Square and saying go find The Bronx!

I'll try and find my way there but I reckon it's going to take a few tumbles.

Just woke up. I'll walk you through this. First go here to see my tutorial for opening a Terminal. If using KDE its called a Konsole.
Yet Another Technology Site: How to open Terminal and find what kernel you are using
Open Terminal and copy and paste this into the open window where you see the flashing cursor (Since you didn't say what Ubuntu you are using I am going to show you how to do Ubuntu 8.10)

    Code:
    sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/intrepid.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
    Hit Enter

Type in your password when it asks you. You will see no dots or anything when you type it in. You'll think the keyboard stopped working but it is. Hit Enter

After the lines quit scrolling and it brings you back to the prompt with the flashing cursor, copy and paste this and hit enter. It won't ask for the password this time

    Code:
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update
    Hit enter

Now I am going to stop here because I don't know if you are running a i386 Distro or a amd 64 distro. This should get you started in the right direction. I told you copy and paste instead of type because you stated in original post about a double click fix. You are going to have to cinch up the suspenders and get a little used to playing with the terminal. Don't be afeared of it too much, but treat it with respect. After finishing adding Medibuntu repositories (translation BIG SOFTWARE LIBRARY and software access).

Go into System>Administration>synaptic package manager (if using Gnome Desktop) and open Synaptic

After you enter your password and Synaptic opens Hit the search button. Type in

    libdvdcss2
and let it search for it.

Check the square box next to it and hit apply. Just agree with everything it tells you. When done, hit the search button again. Type in

    w32codecs
And do what i showed before again. Some folks might say I showed you a round about way to do this. But my reasons are to get you a little more familiar with your operating system so you get the feel of control over it. Linux is very user friendly once you know the ropes. Good luck.

Now them's the type of directions I can follow!!

OK - I shot through that lot like a laxative, I'm getting good at this already..........BUT, yes there's always a BUT...........there are no w32 codecs to be found in the search!!!!!!

Whilst I've been familiarising myself with the layout etc., I see that there's quite a selection of applications to be had under the Applications/Add/Remove tab. Is it safe to dabble in that area or should I hold off for a while? It all LOOKS straight forward enough with a GUI rather than using scripts and coding but I don't want to stuff things up before I get more familiar with things.

One thing that I do find good is the amount of help that users give and the speed at which that help arrives!

Now it's my turn to hit the sack - damn these time zones!!

Man this site is giving me hissy fits today. Pages are taking minutes to load as if i am on Dial up. Yes, you can go into Add/Remove. Look for Ubuntu Retricted Extras in there and you can also install there also. Make sure terminal and Synaptic package manager is closed when you do this. If you go to that medibuntu page I showed you they have a method to install w32 codecs using the terminal also. I might also suggest rebooting to let everything take before you start. Then go on to install w32 codecs. Probably take 5 minutes for my responce to load up again. Whew
