Ubuntu (8.10) hates my MS natural keyboard
Ok so my ps2 MS natural keyboard doesn't work in 8.10 (haven't tried aothers). This is happens in the Live and normal install. I can use it in windows, bios, grub, pre gdm on the live cd, but once I'm in there and hit any key at all on the keyboard, all 3 lock lights flash once. If I plug in a small usb keyboard I have it works fine.
Any idea's? ubuntuforum.org didn't have anything at all to say.

What is the exact model of this keyboard? Also, if you can, please try Hardy (8.04) as it is a LTS release so has more support than a non LTS release such as 8.10 or the soon to be 9.04. let me know the model and I'll try to help you out

E06401COMB is the model number on it. It's pretty old, one of the first ergos I think.
I will download the other release and give it a whirl.

can you link me to specs of the keyboard somewhere? I can't find it when I search for that model number, I think that's unit specific, I was talking about like "Microsoft Ergo 4000" or something like that

That is the only number I can get to pull up on google. It even says model number on the bottom. It's just like this.
Newegg.com - Microsoft A13-00002S White 104 Normal Keys USB + PS/2 Ergonomics Natural Keyboard Elite - Keyboards
Someone even refrences this model number on that listing.

Funny, I have the exact same keyboard and it works fine for me. It seems odd that Ubuntu would reject a specific and by all means generic keyboard. I'm wondering if Ubuntu's actually having an issue with the PS/2 port on this motherboard. Have you tried unplugging the keyboard for a few seconds after boot up? Do you have another PS/2 keyboard you can try?

I'm not a big fan of reseating ps2 devices while the computer is running. I will have to dig around to see if I can find another ps2 keyboard.
It does seem very strange, thats why I thought it would be an easy fix but I've been working on this for a couple of weeks now.

I'm not either, but I have seen that (the three light lockup thing) happen before (on another generic PS/2 KB and a Win98 machine) with no apparent cause. Replugging the KB restarted it and it worked, beat having to reboot the computer.I'm not a big fan of reseating ps2 devices while the computer is running.
In my experience, I have occasionally locked up a system, but never damaged one by replugging a KB.

ok so I'm on an old ps2 keyboard inside of intrepid and everything seems fine. I guess i'll power down and swap out and if that fails ill do some more fooln around, hopefully i can find an old hardy cd or something.
EDIT----------
That didn't work, so I updated the BIOS (just to) still no luck, downloading Hardy right now.
