    Hard drive problems

I recently built a new computer, and thought I finally got all the kinks worked out. My computer runs just fine for a while, but there seems to be something wrong with my hard drive connection. Sometimes I guess my hard drive loses connection and then my computer crashes the next time it tries to access the hard drive.

To fix this all I have to do is open up the case and wiggle around the cables, or just let the computer sit for 5 minutes or so. The time it takes to lose connection like this is very random, and has happened anywhere from an hour of being on to a day and a half.

To try to fix this problem completely, I bought a 90 degree locking SATA cable and hot glued the power cable. Neither one is able to move around like they had been, but it hasn't fixed anything.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Random lockouts usually the result of a thermal process. My guess, since you've replaced the cable to no avail, is you have a bad or loose component either on the hard disk or the controller card/mother board. Do you have access to another hard drive or SATA equipped computer (preferably both) that you could test this with?

I can probably find both, how would I go about testing it?

Swap the drives between both computers, then see if the problem reproduces itself in either one.
