    KVM switching

I have a KVM switch for switching between my Windows and Unbuntu PCs. However, the hotkey sequence of pressing Scroll Lock twice only works when switching from Windows to Linux - not the other way round.

Strangely, I have plugged another USB keyboard straight into the Linux machine and the Scroll Lock function works fine! The rest of the keyboard functionality works OK so why not the Scroll Lock sequence? Thanks.

I suspect you have an IOGear? I don't have a problem going either direction, but I use my KVM to get direct console access to my server, no X server, so that could have something to do with it.

Try the auto-swith function, L-Shift then R-Shift. Hit the scroll lock on the desktop you want to stop the switching. (It is documented, however, I discovered it trying to play a pinball game. Doh!)

My KVM is actually made by StarTech. See here:

Unfortunately, your 'auto-switch function' trick didn't work for me. Thanks anyway.

I don't have a problem on my ssytem, but I don't use a usb keyboard. It could be a usb keyboard/linux problem.

I read the manual; all hotkeys except the basic [ScrLk + ScrLk] are only supported in Windows... WTF man, that's cheesy, however, if you pointed me to the right model, you should be able to press a button on the top of the KVM switch itself. Taken from the manual:
Using the face-panel buttons: The face-panel button allows you to have direct
control over KVM switching operation. Simply pressing the button will switch to the
corresponding PC port ans audio/mic channel (if enabled). By default, PC port
switching and audio/mic port switching are bound together.

The switching can indeed be done by the switches on top of the unit, but to keep my desk tidy I have put it at the back behind my monitor where it's out of easy reach.

As it happens though, I have just discovered by accident that a double press of Num Lock works great on both machines. This is not a documented feature but works none the less! Why Num Lock works on Ubuntu but not Scroll Lock is still a mystery!
