    Kubuntu + KDE 4.2

    Trying to change my plasma theme but all instructions say to open a file in /home/user/.kde4/share/config called plasmarc

    I have the file in

    /home/user/.kde-neon/share/config but it says to look for a line that says

    "Name = Default" and change it.

    Unfortunately mine only has

    [Applet Browser]
    used=,launcher,systemtray,folderview,notifier,page r,tasks,digital-clock
    Any ideas? Thanks all

    Quite a bit changed in 4.2 so I'd recommend renaming your ~./kde4 folder and restarting so that the config files can rebuild themselves. Otherwise, I installed 4.2 yesterday and had no problem changing themes, but I did start with a fresh profile.

    Thanks for the advice. It seems like KDE 4.2 is an improvement but still lacking a lot of stuff. Since I'm a gnome person I have a hard time with all the widgets and stuff. Plus I don't really get the point of some of it (can't really pinpoint my irritation but there's something here that just isn't flowing right). Lastly, I know this will come with time, but the # of widgets is minimal. When I go to "add new widgets" and choose the google option there are only 4 extra widgets to choose from.

    One last thing, already found a really annoying bug. If I restart I can't get my net back up, if I shut down and then turn back on it comes up without a problem....going to post a bug report on launchpad

    On my fresh install yesterday, I had lots more widgets to choose from than before, but not sure how many. Did you install the plasma-addons package (not sure it's called that in Ubuntu)?

    It was all overly irritating to me as well, so I dumped it after a few hours and returned to Gnome.

    I haven't given up yet but getting there. Is there a way for me to remove KDE 3.5? I installed neon on top of 3.5 in Kubuntu so now I have KDE 3.5 and 4.2 at login. What is the easiest way for me to remove 3.5 without screwing up 4.2? Thanks all

    You might need parts of KDE3 and QT3 if you run KOffice, K3B, and a number of other apps because the KDE4 versions aren't ready yet, or at least they weren't the last time I checked.
