    Install Mint from USB drive

I'm posting a mint question in the ubuntu section, because since ubuntu is the parent distro, I assume it will be the same for my question.

I'm wanting to install mint to my desktop, but I dont have a working CD ROM right now, and have to install distros from USB. This is doable (not necessarily easily) in fedora, so I hope it is here. What i'm wanting to do exactly is boot to the installer off a USB drive, and then install over an NFS share exported by a computer on my network.

    Is this possible? and how?

Also side question, does anyone know of a tutorial or explanation of how I can make my own syslinux configuration to take a distro that doesn't have this ability natively, and force it to work?

    Thanks in advance.

If you have access to another computer that does have a CDROM it can boot from and a USB port, then there is a tutorial to put Ubuntu (and I'd think its children) on a USB key. Actually, there's a lot of tutorials and help about this topic here:

I think I need to specify, I'm not looking to RUN it off of a flash drive, I'm looking to boot the installer off the flash drive, and install onto my hard drive. The usb drive is only used for the installation, not running everyday use off of it.

Just use Unetbootin. You install it onto the flash drive, boot up into the live distro and then install onto your internal hard drive from there. It's just like using a live cd to install a distro

I have no idea how to install a live distro onto my hard drive, as I've never tried (closest I've come is using the Gentoo live distro to install Gentoo, but that's probably not the same, as a Gentoo install is unique.)

But, I'm sure i'll figure it out. I'll try it next weekend.
