    Ubuntu Installation

Hi, im new to the forums.

The issue Im having is after I burned and tried to install ubuntu 8.10. I popped in the cd and then i chose "Install Ubuntu". I was taken to a loading screen, but after the bar filled up my screen said there was no signal but i played with f1-f6 and now it shows "loading please wait" everywhere I have read it says, to just wait. But i left the computer to wait overnight and it still did nothing. I tried to install 8.04 after a few failed attempts at 8.10. but 8.04 just gave me a whole bunch of errors. I dont know what to do. Im going to try to install the alternate version but could someone please help me? thanks

Hi, Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you might have tried booting up Ubuntu 8.10 with the no changes to my computer option. Then you would have ran off the cd in live mode and could have posted what your hardware problems are so folks could look at them.

That being said, the alternate install Cd is a fine route to take also. I find it to be very straightforward and not hard to do. I'm sure if you have any questions when it comes to using the alternate install cd, forum memebers will be glad to give ya a hand. Good Luck and be patient.

On the grub menu that comes up after booting up cd, the one I suggested is at the top of the list. It is the default boot option.

Make sure you are connected to the internet via land line first. Boot up cd. Get to your log in screen. Log in. The little screen on left should provide password. Boot into Desktop. Test drive it and find out what works and what doesn't work. You won't need to type anything yet for computer info till you get to a working Desktop.

so now there is a new issue. I used the alternate install and everything went fine. Now when I rebooted my system i got "grub loading" then "starting up" after that I see a ubuntu logo loading and then my screen says there is no signal. After pressing f1-f6 i get to a command prompt looking thing where i put the login and password
but i dont see any GUI or anything. What do i need to do?

Enter your login name and password that you setup while installing alternate cd. Hopefully you will be greeted by a brown Ubuntu desktop with Taskbars and everything.
