b43 cutter on live distro
Hi All,
I think I've posted this before but never got an answer that I could follow.
I reinstall very often, I'd like to get it so that when I reinstall my wireless is up right away instead of having to hardwire to install the Broadcom native drivers from B43-fwcutter.
Is there an easy way to make the Ubuntu iso so that it already has this installed so that the live distro has wireless and when I install wireless is up right away. My house isn't optimum for disconnecting and hard wiring my laptop then disconnecting again and setting everything back up. Thanks allBodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17

I don't know about re-mastering an iso. But you could just keep the firmware files on a USB drive or CD, and copy them to the appropriate directory after the installation.
I do this for the firmware that is needed for my dvb capture cards. I seem to re-install MythTV at least once a year, and trying to find the firmware was getting harder and harder each time.Paul

Or, you could........check this out.......clone your current install to a LiveDVD?!? Wow, I wonder if this works for other distros too....hhmmm.

EDIT: CRAP! that's an old link and it may not even work anymore.
from the comments sections.
This no longer seems to work in Hardy. It requires a Depend of MKISOFS, which ubuntu has a derivitave of (genisoimg), however still will not install.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

The weird thing is when I download the b43-fwcutter in Hardware Drivers it's a fairly large download (at least a few megs) but when I found the firmware program on the repo site and downloaded it, it was only 15 kb! So, now I'm confused as to if I double click that .deb file after a reinstall if it'll set up my wireless....I guess only one way to find out
Here it goes, I'll post results
Edit: Oh yeah, also I don't want to reburn anything, I do everything from flash drive now....no need to waste a cd, especially when I upgrade every 6 months (or less with alpha's and betas). This is why I couldn't switch to other distros....all need to get on board with flash installs( OpenSuse is just a pain to get to work on a flash

You don't need b43-fwcutter everytime. Once you have extracted the firmware files, you can delete everything else. You just need to save the firmware files that have been extracted. Copy them to a USB drive, and you can then copy them to the /lib/firmware/ directory anytime you need them.
Do you understand what I mean? The firmware files are several binary files, that don't take up much space.Paul

I actually got it
I had to guess at a few things but I downloaded the .deb of the b43 cutter, downloaded the native driver and was able to go from there. So I created a folder on my USB called wireless and am going to write a script that runs it as soon as I have my first boot, this way after one restart wireless will be up. Thanks a lot
