    updates knocked out wireless connection

    Hi --
I just loaded Ubuntu 8.10 on my Acer Extensa computer and a functional wireless connection box appeared in the upper bar. I was very pleased as this has been a problem on this computer. Then went ahead and loaded the updates (142 of them). That put an end to the wireless connection. Had to reinstall the whole op. I usually just upload the recommended files, figuring that you technical types know what is needed better than I do. But now I am afraid to do so. Should I just leave well enough alone?

I've experienced this problem half a dozen times, and am judicious about package updates and version updates.

Only thing I've learned to do, until some sort of 'System Restore' is implemented, is to copy network interfaces configuration to the desktop before updating, and then compare afterwards if there's a problem.

    Code:
    cat /etc/network/interfaces

    If is ain't broke

    buccaneere --

So I'm not the only one. I think I'll just operate on the assumption that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." If I can get either Skype or Ekiga up and running on my lap top I'll have everything I could want in a computer. so i think from here on out I'll just install specific files or programs for specific purposes and leave the broadside updates alone.
