[SOLVED] Please help me!!

I installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop Acer 4370Z .My audio is working but I am unable to play any video even i am not able to play youtube.,I installed the vlc player.still not playing.Laptop freezes
when i try to play any video with extension .avi,.mpg .
Please help me..Please I love UBUNTU

open terminal and do:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Dude its installing Java ..I have 1 question will this solve my problem ..If this has any connection with my video playing ...

Its asking for 15 mnts to install..thanks

It installs a whole list of things that most people use including java, mp3 support, flash support, etc....it's a good thing to have

Its not working ....even I download teh flash player and installed it ..still it ask "
Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player"
