    Linux Noob HELP Please

Im a complete linux noob. Ive downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 and i have installed it within ms windows.

My first problem was when i went to boot Ubuntu and the graphics werent right so i rebooted it with a different graphic confiruration and it installed successfully.

When i went to boot Ubuntu a second time to actually use it i got the following error

ALERT! /host/ubuntu/disks/root.disk does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

    BusyBox v1.10.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.10.2-1ubuntu6) built-in shell (ash)
Can anyone please explain whats going wrong or how i can possibly fix it

I know very little about linux but want to have a go with it

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like setup overestimated your monitor. Press [Ctrl + Alt + -] (may need to a few times) to see if your screen comes back. If it does, we'll need to edit a config file. If it doesn't, well, we'll need to edit the same file differently... press [Ctrl + Alt + F1] which should bring you to a log-in prompt. Log in with your username and password (doesn't echo).

I would like to see the output of:

    lspci | grep -i vga

    grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    grep mode /var/log/Xorg.0.log

and I'd like to know the model of your monitor.
