Linux Noob HELP Please
Im a complete linux noob. Ive downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 and i have installed it within ms windows.
My first problem was when i went to boot Ubuntu and the graphics werent right so i rebooted it with a different graphic confiruration and it installed successfully.
When i went to boot Ubuntu a second time to actually use it i got the following error
Can anyone please explain whats going wrong or how i can possibly fix itALERT! /host/ubuntu/disks/root.disk does not exist. Dropping to a shell!
BusyBox v1.10.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.10.2-1ubuntu6) built-in shell (ash)
I know very little about linux but want to have a go with it

Ok ive managed to get past ther boot error (dont know how) but now i have another problem


I can boot linux and everything is grand up until what im presuming should be the login or desktop or something being displayed. My screen just displays alot of colour that seem to slowly fade white
Any advise or help appreciated

Sounds like setup overestimated your monitor. Press [Ctrl + Alt + -] (may need to a few times) to see if your screen comes back. If it does, we'll need to edit a config file. If it doesn't, well, we'll need to edit the same file differently... press [Ctrl + Alt + F1] which should bring you to a log-in prompt. Log in with your username and password (doesn't echo).
I would like to see the output of:
lspci | grep -i vga
grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
grep mode /var/log/Xorg.0.log
and I'd like to know the model of your monitor.
