ubuntu and grub wont see XP partition

just reformatted and reloaded my system with a winxp partition,

I restored from a back up but I do not know the syntax to put in the /boot/grub/menu.lst to get it to see the new3 XP partition.

My device is xp hda2, ubuntu hda1 and fedora hda4. ubuntu and Fedora work fine. But i get an error on the Xp menu option.

Can someone post the stanza I need to add for XP.

I did a search but not finding what i need.

I can now see the menu entry but get

error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format
    Press any key to continue...
    Thanx

If XP is on hda2 try
    Code:
    title XP
    rootnoverify (hd0,1)
    chainloader +1
Ed: if that does not work post output of
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
    the -l has a small L not a one.

You have installed Linux in First partition.
    Add this code in menu.lst
    Code:
    title Windows XP
    rootnoverify (hd0,1)
    chainloader +1
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I tried this but i get hte orgianl error of hal.dll not found... I know it there. why is this so difficult.

If I didnot need windows every so often i would not even bother with this. Linux is so much better.

    HELP im going insane now...

You are not installing Linux correctly. You are installing it in the First Primary partition of Hard disk.
Is it possible for you to re-install? We will guide you all the way.

i dont understand how that can happen. I instaleld windows first the went into gpated and shrunk the partition down to 50G from 232G. I then load fedora and reboot. Fedora and windows boots ok.

I then loaded ubuntu and now fedora work and ubuntu work but no windows.
I really cannot reload everything again. thats a last ditch effort for me.
