ubuntu 8.10 not working with my AMD desktop!! any help??
hi..
today i tried to run ubuntu 8.10 from the cd on my desktop..it statred to load the ubuntu and when it was supposed to log in the monitor turned off but i heard the welcom sound of ubuntu !! it means that it worked but the monitor is off !!!
my pc is:
mobo: abit ax78
amd athlon x2 4800
v.card: ati hd 3870 512
2 giga bus 800 ram
skystar2 satellite card
alfa wireless lan
d-link wireless lan
what's the problem and what's the solution if there is any???

this is a graphics problem, you probably can't use the livecd, if you choose to install you will need to run the alternate installer disk most likely as well

On the boot screen, press F6, and select acpi=off and noapic. Try booting with those options.

You can also try to see whether or not the 8.04 cd works. It's an LTS and if you want to go to 8.10 you can always do a dist-upgrade. I think though the alternate cd will be the best way to succes.

LiveCD of Ubuntu doesn't work properly in a few machines of my Lab and Graphics Cards cause this problem most of the time. Try booting up in Safe Graphics Mode or use Alternate Installation CD for Installation.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
