    Logitech webcam driver

I have an old Logitech QuickCam and I can't install a driver for it from the Logitech site because I don't run Windows. Is there an alternative I can use? This is all in my quest to get Skype operational.

    Thanks!!!

One way which might work is to install 'Cheese' - a Linux native webcam app.

Install it from Syn Package Manager, then click on the Cheese applet that gets installed on the upper task panel, and it will search for the camera, and install drivers by default...

That didn't work. It didn't search for the camera or install any drivers for it. All it gave me was coloured bars.

There's another thread here with that problem (and the colored bars screen pic). Posted in the last 2 weeks; might be a solution in that thread by now...

I couldn't find the thread that you're referring to.

Umm...I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with this link. I'm a Linux idiot and nothing on that page makes any sense to me.

Question, How old is your camera; Does it connect to your Parallel Port or is it USB?

A Google search turns up some leads too.

The camera is probably at least 10 years old....it's USB. I'm thinking it may be too old to be compatible -- maybe time for a new camera?

you dont mention what OS version you have, nor what desktop environment i.e. KDE, Gnome.... anyways plugin the webcam and in console type:

lsusb (note that's a lower case L as in Lsusb)

if it is detected you'll see something like:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID xx62:1xx1 logitec or webcam or cam etc.

google the ID and it might tell you wich driver do you need like gspca or svxxx something so install that plus libv4l in synaptic package manager
