Kubuntu ?
Hello I am new to forums and to Linux. I recently downloaded Kubuntu and all I can do is browse the INTERNET. I can not play music from my MP3 player. ( I did get it on the computer) Do not understand how to get pictures on there. I notice there are alot of gizmos to mess with inside the OS but I have not been able to get much to work for me.
Any help or info would be appreciated.

First thing is to Click on the Menu, Administrative Tasks, Synaptic Package Manager
Click on "Reload" to update the package list from on-line sources. Search for and install the package kubuntu-restricted-extras.
After that, you should have your MP3 player and a bunch of other things working.
While you're at it, you can run through and see if there's any other programs you'd like to try out. Happy exploring!

I assume when you say menu that you are talking about the icon in the lower left hand corner that would be the same spot as the start menu in M$ ?
When I click that I do not come up with an option for Administrative Tasks

It might be a little different with Kubuntu.. Okay, I guess now it's System -> Adept (I prefer Synaptic), but same idea. Sorry for the confusion. The desktops in front of me are SuSE 10 and Xubuntu.

OK so I figured out th Adept part and installed a couple of programs. But there are alot of programs there and I do not understand or know which ones I need. The whole Linux thing is new to me. Any advice that anyone could offer would be appreciated.
I have noticed that my Yahoo mail does not function correctly, but thats no big deal.
I am a M$ guy but I am trying to branch out and try different stuff but I definately feel a little lost.

The ubuntus bundle the most commonly requested non-free (as in speech) software into one package, variously called "ubuntu-restricted-extras, kubuntu-restricted-extras-, xubuntu-restricted-extras", depending on which version you are using.

I got DVDs to plat
. I guess on to the next challenge

There are so many programs in the adept that I can not guess what to try next.
What about my drivers? I know that I have sound. I have built in Nvidia GeForce 6100 Graphics.
Printer works
Did install a couple of games but they move real slow. Running 2.3 GHz CPU with 1 GIG of Ram. Figured simple games should run fine. Am I missing something?

Have you installed Nvidia Driver using Hardware drivers option in Menu?
Make sure to create backup copy of xorg.conf file before installing driver.
Code:cd /etc/X11 sudo cp xorg.conf xorg.conf.working
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
