    Unhappy Problems with VM's

Hi, I'm having a problem with Virtualbox.

It said a new version was available so i clicked the link downloaded the correct version and tried to intall it. Adept package manager just disappeared. I tried installing again and then I got the following message.

    Code:
    Unpacking virtualbox-2.1 (from .../virtualbox-2.1_2.1.4-42893_Ubuntu_ hardy_amd64.deb) ...
debconf: Unable to initialise frontend: Dialog
debconf: (Dialogue frontend will not work on a dumb terminal, an Emac s shell buffer, or without a controlling terminal.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Readline
debconf: Unable to initialise frontend: Readline
debconf: (This frontend requires a controlling tty.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Teletype
    Configuring virtualbox-2.1
    --------------------------

    Old installation found

An old installation of VirtualBox was found. To install this package
the old package has to be removed first. Have a look at
/etc/vbox/vbox.cfg to determine the installation directory of the
previous installation. After uninstalling the old package remove the
    file /etc/vbox/vbox.cfg.

dpkg: error processing /home/twinkle/virtualbox-2.1_2.1.4-42893_Ubunt u_hardy_amd64.deb (--install):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
    Errors were encountered while processing:
     /home/twinkle/virtualbox-2.1_2.1.4-42893_Ubuntu_hardy_amd64.deb
I open virtualbox to find that it is still the old version.

I think okay well no worry I will just use the old verison. I try to start a VM and get this message:

    Code:
The VirtualBox support driver which is running is from a different version of VirtualBox. You can correct this by stopping all running instances of VirtualBox and reinstalling the software..
    VBox status code: -1912 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_VERSION_MISMATCH).

    Result Code:
    NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
    Component:
    Console
    Interface:
    IConsole {e3c6d4a1-a935-47ca-b16d-f9e9c496e53e}
I have tried Synaptic, apt-get and Adept to try and remove the old verison but they all say it cannot be found.

This is the last time I am updating on my own, Synaptic or Adpet can do the updating for me in future.

But how can I get Virtualbox to work agian? I am using Kubuntu.

    Help is VERY appreciated!

    Thanks.

what happens when you look into the config files that it says to look at:

    /etc/vbox/vbox.cfg

where is the old version installed.

Because Linux doesn't use a registry you can manually remove all files and then it will be removed (NEVER DO THIS IN WINDOWS )

Check out the files it says to look in to see if you get anywhere. Post again if you have any questions
