8.10 won't boot from a disc, want to erase ubuntu but can't

hey guys i just built a new computer and I installed ubuntu on it with no difficulties. now im trying to boot from a disc so i can delete it or install a different OS but it will not boot from disc. I went into BIOS thinking i could over ride whatever it was that ubuntu was doing by changing the boot priority to CDROM and disabling everything else but i got the message

"reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key"

This is weird because the disc i was trying to boot booted properly in the laptop im posting from now. I then took apart my family's desktop (lol their responses when they saw it lying open on the ground were priceless) and borrowed their disc drive which i know works. I got the same message as above so i think that eliminates a hardware malfunction.

I added smart boot manager to the starting menu of ubuntu, i'm going to go try that out for a second time, i may have done something wrong the first time. Will post the results in a sec but the first time around it was a fail

I assume you built a standard desktop computer. When you say you installed Ubuntu with not problems I will assume the installation gave no errors and you were subsequently ablt to boot to Ubuntu on at least once occasion?? Since you made no mention of another OS, I will assume Ubuntu was the only one? Are you still able to boot into Ubuntu?

That's pretty vague? What disc? What's on the disc? Did you actually go into the BIOS of your computer and set whatever drive you are using with the 'disc' to first boot priority? Only one hard drive? If more than one, jumper settings are? Or you could have just messed up your mbr which should not really be that hard to fix. You need to give more information.

I'm no Linux expert but if the mbr is messed up, could he try what was suggested by tpl in this thread?

Speaking from personal experience ( ) are you sure you are booting from the the correct CD?

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
