You can start here at this page and read up on it.
Emu10k1 - ALSA wiki
and you can try either this route
Matrix:Module-emu10k1 - AlsaProject
or also go to synaptic and search alsa. select the first package and also scroll down and select the package that says alsa tools and alsa tools GUI. Alsa tools has an Emu10k1 compiler which should be of enormous help. this link contains a link for all alsa-supported creative labs cards. Yours is listed. http://www.alsa-project.org/main/ind...-Creative_Labs But there are no audigy cards that run 10k1, they are all either on 10k2 or a completely different driver. You should probably look at this.
And yea, I'm a big biker linuxing weirdo.

Go to System>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager.
Click on it to open it up.
Enter passord when prompted.
After it opens click on search.
Type in in alsa.
Select the first package and also scroll down and select the package that says alsa tools and alsa tools GUI.
Hit apply
After everything installs close Synaptic Package manager.
Go to Applications>accessories>Terminal
Click on it to open Terminal
type in : alsamixer
unmute anything that is muted
Slide all the sliders up to at least 80% or higher
See if you have sound after that.Linux Registered User # 475019

Ok, what do you get when you right click speaker icon on Taskbar and select Open Volume Control? And which Ubuntu are you running? And Which desktop. Since you have synaptic it is probably either XFCE or Gnome.

Another Question. Are you running in live mode or is Ubuntu Installed. Also is this a Wubi install or regular hardrive install.

Have you installed Ubuntu restricted extras yet?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
And for good measure here is your manual
Ubuntu:Intrepid -
Ubuntu:Hardy -
I included both since I aint sure which version you are using.Linux Registered User # 475019
