    USB Sound

    Hi All,

I just got a USB 5.1 sound card for my notebook....having some weird issues.

First I couldn't get the card to work at all using ALSA (worked with OSS when I went to system preferences, sound, and switched to OSS - USB)

I installed the latest ALSA from source including the libs, tools, etc...

    What I can get now:
When I go to system preferences sound, when I test ALSA USB I hear noise coming out of my 5.1
    Rythmbox -- works perfectly

    What doesn't work:
    Pretty much everything else.
Amarok doesn't work (preferred music player)
internet stuff (youtube, nba highlights, etc..)
    VLC

How do I get it working for everything? I'm a bit annoyed with this problem

Edit: By not work I mean the sound comes out of my laptop speakers instead of my 5.1

Edit 2: I followed these instructions:
HOWTO: get an undetected usb card or headset detected by alsa and configured for 5.1 - Ubuntu Forums

VLC now works, Amarok still doesn't (sound out of notebook speakers), now no sound at all on youtube

jmadero, I didn't realize that when I recommended you that usb soundcard that you were gonna have this much trouble with it. Have you looked through these any at all?

Here is my thread. It doesn't name the card specifically, but it is about this card.
from a reviewer who recommended this card to work in 5.1 surround sound:::::
