    8.04 flash player not functioning

I checked the flash plug-in in the synaptic package manager but the flash player does not load mark fiore's cartoons. Have I missed doing something? I went to adobe's website and got the installer instructions that my os is not supported.

It must be the Via graphics card in my computer.

I figured that it should not hurt to try something. I downloaded from rpm's suse build the 9.0 flash player and installed it into my suse 10 os to make sure it would work with my Via graphics card.
I then installed alien through the package manager. Then using the terminal I installed the flash player. My computer informed me that the flash player was installed successfully but it still does not work. Ouch!!

What do you mean by not working?

It's possible if you have one of the open source flash players installed like gnash, it could be interfering, so make sure those are uninstalled. Uninstall whatever adobe flash you have altogether, actually, and start over. The adobe site does have an ubuntu package for download, I just looked. Adobe - Adobe Flash Player

Just in case, what browser are you using and are you running the 64 bit version of Ubuntu or 32 bit?

I've been messing with this problem lately. I actually just downloaded flash 10 last night and have been testing it (they have rpm, deb, and tar versions; I used the tar, manually placing the libflashplayer.so according to Devils Casper's instructions (the included install script refused to work for me)... this after the launchpad script failed on an MD5 error, I guess the adobe version's been updated but not the script).

Anyway, not only does flash 10 have better sound support for various Linux sound servers (including pulse), but it also fixes several ugly stability bugs. For the first time in ages, I can watch youtube videos without worrying about crashing firefox on exiting the page!

Before potentially breaking your Ubuntu's sound system, try simply updating your flash first.

Adobe 10 flash, as well as Ubuntu 8.04 are not supported by my computers Via graphics card. I had to copy and paste my suse 10 X11 file into Ubuntu so that I could have the correct resolution on my monitor. That is why I am trying to mickey mouse a way to get adobe 9 flash to work.

Elija if I go to mark fiore's cartoon site the the cartoons will not load using Ubuntu.

Looking here, I'm not seeing any specific video hardware requirements, though I still have to check on some links.

What's the exact error you get when trying to run Adobe Flash 10?

Heh! We're on the same page.

I can't see anything to do with video cards especially, but it does seem to need a lot of RAM

If I remember correctly it said unable to install flash 10 not supported.

    What does this mean:
    ( apt-listchanges: 28530 ) : libglade-WARNING** : could not find glade file ' apt-listchanges/apt-listchanges.glade'

    How can I fix it?
