Can't run Audacious
Hi
Neither I can run Audacious nor I can uninstall it.
When I click on the icon to make it run, nothing just happens.
When I try to uninstall it, the error tells me that the program might be depended on one or many other programs. To uninstall this programm correctly, I have to use the Synaptic Packege (no idea what that is).

Synaptic Package Manager is in System>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager. Click on the search box and type in Audacious . If you wish to keep Audacious you can ask Synaptic to reinstall it. You also Have the option to uninstall it there also. I would try reinstalling it first. Then reboot. And see if it opens up and works for you then. Sounds like you might have missed some dependencies when you installed it before. Synaptic will cover your bases when it comes to dependency issues.

okay thanks, now I'm able to uninstall it but that's not really what I want. I wanna make it run. So just as you said, first I've reinstalled the program and restarted my computer but nothing happend. then I uninstalled it and installed it once again manually but I ain't still able to make it run.
Is there a way to fix that problem?

As a experiment I just installed Audacious just now through sysnaptic and opened up my AC/DC music mp3 file to see if there were any problems. Worked Like a champ for me. I don't know how you went about installing the first time. Maybe something got borked with the way you installed it then.

All I can suggest is to uninstall again through synaptic and close it when done. Then open a Terminal and type in
and type in your password and hit enter.Code:sudo apt-get autoclean
After it's done close your Terminal session. Open up Synaptic and Try Installing Audacious again. Close sysnaptic after Install is done. Reboot or Logout and Logback in to Desktop and see what happens.Linux Registered User # 475019

OK, how about clicking on audacious in your Synaptic Package manager to get the description of package. Then at the top of sysnaptic there will be a properties tab. Click on it. Select Dependancies tab and see if it matches this. I had to take 3 screenshots to pull up all the dependencies for it.

Raider, what do you think of running Songbird Instead. It is what I run to play my music and download music also since it has a built in browser. I wrote a tutorial for installing it in Ubuntu 8.04 .Maybe thats why you can't get audacious to run. You might have downloaded audacious for Ubuntu 8.04 and you are trying to install in Ubuntu 8.10. Not compatible and when you try to install through synaptic there is a conflict because of your previous installed dependencies which are incompatible with Ubuntu 8.10. Just a guess anyhows.
Here is the link for installing Songbird that I wrote up.

Songbird looks nice but the reason why I only wanna use Audacious is because of the program "Streamtuner". So it's because of the shoutcastes ... it just gives me an alternative to Winamp.
I'm not really sure what you're saying about the versions of Ubuntu. Because I installed Ubuntu two weeks ago and Audacious used to run without any problems. Suddenly it didn't work anymore. So if I did anything I shouldn't have done, I don't really know what it is. But basically I'm not that kind of person clicking around, without knowing what to do.

Well I'm at a loss at what to tell you. Maybe a kernel upgrade you did broke it maybe. I'm not there so I gotta guess at this. Like I said, my install went flawlessly, but I am running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Instead of 8.10.
