    No wireless internet for laptop

Ok, so I have an HP Pavilion ze2000 laptop that I just loaded Ubuntu 8.10 onto. I have no idea how to go about getting the wireless internet to work. The on/off light for the wireless doesn't come on or anything. I even tried hard wiring to the computer but that doesn't work either. I believe it has a Broadcom 54G wireless card currently in it.

What process should I go about doing in order to get my wireless internet to work? Sorry, I am really new to ubuntu and not really knowledgeable about computer specifics, so please describe things in a way I can understand them.

    Thanks

you aren't getting net from hardwire? That's a bigger deal than not having wireless....usually that works out of the box.

What kind of net are you using, DSL, cable, dial up?

I've found this method to work reliably when setting up a wireless connection in Ubuntu.

But I agree with jmadero: usually a hardwire connection "just works", and if it doesn't it might indicate a more fundamental problem. What happens when you type "ifconfig" in a terminal window?

are you able to ping? Open up a terminal and do this

ping www. goo gle. com (there are no spaces, it auto converts to Google if I don't do that)

To build on jmadero, do you get an IP? Execute the following at the Terminal and post the results:
    Code:
    /sbin/ifconfig
If it says you don't have permissions, put "sudo" (w/o the quotes) in front of the command and enter your password.

Are you talking about when I have it hard wired. If so, I can do that real quick.

Ok, now I ran into another problem. I am currently using Windows to post messages, so I tried saving a screenshot of the /sbin/ifconfig to a flash drive. As you know, it doesn't work. So I don't know what I can do to provide a screen shot.
