Installation problem
Hello All,
I having an Acer laptop with IDE harddrive and windows XP preinstalled.Its having 3 partition c,d,e with 29.2 ,49.2 and 61.1 GB space respectively.i like to installed UBUNTU on drive d (49.2 GB) .Inserting ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS desktop edition in CD rom installation works up to 94 % then fatal error occurs with GRUB not able to load . Plz tell me the solution.

From where did you get Ubuntu installation CD? If you have downloaded and burned .iso image yourself then verify MD5SUM of downloaded image and reburn it at lowest possible speed supported by your CD Burner.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

worst case use the alternative CD but that sounds like bad cd symptoms. Do what DC says. Also you can run check disk from the menu provided at the beginning on the Ubuntu cd

still run the check disk to make sure it's okay....it's rare but sometimes their burns are bad also

Does Grub spit back an error message number? This will help in narrowing down the error problem.
