    Hei Guys...,

My laptop is same as yours (HP Pavilion DV4 series) and sound card is similar (IDT)
with Vista everything worked fine but when I want to install Ubuntu Audio did not work at all...

The same problem occurred with VGA also..... Here I have Nvidea Geforce but Ubuntu doesn't initially provide any driver for it as Nvidia only provides a restricted drivers for their products.. However finally I could download the restricted driver the Nvidia provides and installed. After that everything worked fine and the interface was just great...!

Now comes the hard part... As IDT didn't provide any sort of a driver for their product regarding to Linux it was hopeless I thought to wish sound from ubuntu... And it has identified the sound card as Intel not as IDT so that I thought nothing will work out as I searched searched and did so many things consuming lot of my time in order to have the Audio from Ubuntu as I love ubuntu...

Nothing worked..... I'm not a person who knows about Linux much so that first place I was so much confused and frustrated and almost gave the hope about my sound up...

Then I saw this linux forums and the same problem in a same machine as mine... And I saw D-cat's comment (thousand times thanks to him...!) and just experimented that too.. But yet I didn't think it will work out as I have already tried so many trials like that... (installations, codes etc...)

I typed the code he has provided (in terminal mode of course...) and just rebooted the machine...

I never thought sound will come but oops...!!! It was amazing the sound has come loud and very clear...! Just a single code... everything worked out perfectly...

Now I'm fully satisfactory with Ubuntu as I have build it as a fantastic theater... (Whole bunch of fantastic world... Rotating cube so many nice animations... full of entertainment just for free...! This is unbelievable...) My friends are asking me "how to have this Linux...! How...!" like that... I gave lot of people Ubuntu CDs and instructed how to install and get used to it... The idea that's just for free and you can change, edit and distribute as much as you want... That idea has made them surprise... they are asking "Are there such good people in USA...?" I said yes and it's not only USA...

So go ahead with D-Cat's comment.. You'll have your sound fantastic...
    Thanks guys...
    Good Luck...
