    * SECURITY UPDATE: current directory .profile file parsing (LP: #335421)
    - debian/diff/0045-dash-l-option.diff: updated patch to remove extra line
so .profile doesn't get loaded twice.
    - CVE-2009-XXXX

The Debian Almquist Shell (dash) is a lightweight POSIX-compliant shell derived from ash.
It can be usefully installed as /bin/sh (because it executes scripts faster than bash), or as the default shell for the superuser.
It depends on fewer libraries than bash, and is therefore less likely to be affected by an upgrade problem or a disk failure. It is also useful for checking the POSIX compliance of scripts."

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DashAsBinSh

this is why they picked dash, and they view it as good, why would an application having a security update make it bad?

I read that Dash damaged a few user's OS's after they did the install... I wanted to be sure it wouldn't put me in the position I had to reinstall. I thought it might be for newer towers...

    Thanks for your advice...

dash didn't damage the OS, certain applications using shell scripts may have been written poorly, calling upon /bin/sh assuming that it would always be bash, but this may not be the case
