    Unhappy GRUB Error18 @ stage1.5

    Hello Everyone!

I am have installed 'Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid/ibex' onto my 'Thinkpad T40 cenrino' last night. and when I got to what seemed to be the end of the installation prompting me to restart machine before using new linux installation. After restarting my machine I have an error reading:

    Code:
    GRUB Loading stage1.5

    GRUB loading, please wait...
    Error 18
    _

Now at this point and time I am unable to do anything at all. No commands no nothing. I have installed Ubuntu8.10 on my system 100%, to the max, nothing else So I'm guessing it may be too large for BIOS to do its thing?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi and Welcome !

Did you download and burn .iso image of Ubuntu yourself? Have you verified MD5SUM of downloaded image?

Boot up from Ubuntu CD, open Terminal and execute this
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    Does it list Linux Partitions?

    * Its small L in fdisk -l.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Thank you for your idea.
Here's where there's a problem. I have installed Ubuntu 100%. it is now the only partition I have on my machine and I am unable to execute any command because I have a stage1 GRUB error, as the linux kernel is in stage2 has not been able to load.
the only opportunity I ever have to use any command whatsoever is in the prompt of 'D:\>' and it doesn't seem to help much.

Boot up from Ubuntu LiveCD and execute sudo fdisk -l command. Post output here, as I suggested in earlier post.
