    Installing Opera

Ok, I installed Ubuntu on my old laptop since I'm trying very hard to get away from Windows.

I was able to easily burn out the image on a cd-rom, install it on my laptop and get started using Ubuntu. (Everything was so easy, I was very impressed.)

But what has always stopped me from installing Ubuntu on my desktop system is installations. I've not got the hang of it.

I've installed the Ubuntu install file from Opera, but it won't show up anywhere. I've searched the computer for "Opera", but I've found the "O" gif image, but not the actual application.

Is there anything more I have to do? I really like Ubuntu, might try a different flavor, I like the looks of Fedora... But in the mean time, getting to know the basics is a must.

So any help on what I have to do to get Opera working would help me understand how to do simple installs at least.

    Thanks for any help.

I used to use an opera browser in my suse 10 os but the new version turned me off. Try going to a newsletter webpage using opera. Once there click " save " on an article and before you save it see just what file that Opera intends to send it to. You will probably find your download in that file.

    Hi and Welcome !

You can install/upgrade/remove packages using Synaptic Package Manager easily. Your machine must have internet access for that though.

Which version of Ubuntu are you using?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

go to the Opera (or for Skype) website - the browser identifies your OS, so when you download you get the correct version.
Version 10 is available - since they develop on Linux/Ubuntu - so you can "safely" download this with spell-checking and the fast Flash - and all the other goodies - such as downloader and widgets.

You select Synaptic to install your "package".

It will (as will Skype) appear on the Internet application group. Use Mozilla plug-ins.
