No Linksys support for their wireless routers!!!

I've been able to get through my Linux problems so far, and only because of the help of you people on this network - when the forum on the official Ubuntu site didn't come through for me, you people here did, and I can't thank you enough for it!

I started out a complete novice, with a plan to learn as slowly as I needed to and to learn it right while keeping my Vista partition, but then I ended up losing that partition during a reinstall of Ubuntu (which I wouldn't have done if I knew more then). Now my desktop is all Ubuntu, and I just found out that the Linksys wireless router which I bought a little while ago (never had one before) is not supported for any OS other than Windows or Mac. I know little of routers, but I'm surprised to learn that they require driver support at all (guess I thought so because I couldn't think of an commands they execute). Linksys won't help me with this, so is there a workaround, or a site where people write and post drivers for the products of such foul, unfriendly companies (if you told me Linksys should be boycotted for this instead, I'd have to agree)?

    Thanks.

HorseHockey! Just plug that bad boy in and configure it with an Ethernet enabled computer. Your router doesn't care if you use Linux/Mac or anything else.

I hope you're serious! I could think of no reason to worry about it at first, and then when I opened the box I saw on the manual cover some dire warning not to even connect the cable without running the CD first! So, if I really don't need drivers for a router, then what would be on that CD? Linksys adware?

I've had 2 Linksys routers now (for my Linux boxes) and installed several for other folks (their Windows and Mac's). Never even took the installation CD's out of the wrappers! Besides which, it would make no sense for them to be incompatible with Linux, since they just so happen to run on an embedded Linux OS. Do like MikeTbob suggested. Plug 'er in and get to surfing!

With Jay and Mike on this. It is not even an issue. Just because they don't offer Linux support is no indication that their hardware doesn't work with Linux. Lots of computer hardware lists support for Windows and Mac that will also work with Linux. They just don't print that it does on the box for whatever reason...

It annoys me that they even state that crap. It's a network device, not a peripheral. It's like saying your DNS server doesn't support Xbox. All it does is resolve DNS...what has the client operating system got to do with it?

You guys are right, as usual - it works fine without their stupid CD!

How they had me going is this dire warning, displayed on the setup card, which says something like "don't connect the cable until you run the CD". More protection from the same mafia which created the threat? It must be security software, for the Windows users who need it.

    Thanks, everyone!

There's something irritating about manufacturers that use Linux in their products to turn a buck refusing to support Linux in the same way they do Windows and Mac with end users.
